The basics
Light-based care,
tailored to your skin.
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It uses filtered light across a range of wavelengths to target selected structures in the skin, rather than the single wavelength used by a laser.
Your consultation helps us identify which concerns may respond to IPL and whether it is appropriate for your skin.

01 / CLARIFY
Acne
IPL acne treatment uses selected wavelengths of light to help improve mild to moderate inflammatory acne. It may complement your existing skincare and acne management plan, with treatment tailored to your skin’s condition and current medications.
A course of treatments may help reduce inflammatory breakouts in suitable clients. Results vary, and ongoing skincare or medical treatment may still be needed to manage acne.
Suitable for: Selected clients with mild to moderate inflammatory acne.
Discomfort level: Mild to moderate warmth and a brief snapping sensation.
Downtime: Minimal, although temporary redness, warmth or swelling may occur.
Time: 30 - 60mins
Suggested treatments: 6 Treatments 1 -2 weeks apart

Pigmentation
IPL pigmentation treatment delivers filtered light energy that is absorbed by melanin—the pigment responsible for suitable freckles and sun-related brown spots. This creates targeted heating to help reduce the appearance of unwanted pigmentation.
Treated spots may initially look darker before gradually shedding, revealing a more even-looking complexion. Your practitioner will assess the type of pigmentation first, as not every brown spot or pigment concern is suitable for IPL.
Suitable for: freckles, sun spots and sun-related uneven pigmentation.
Discomfort level: Mild to moderate, often described as a warm snapping sensation.
Downtime: Temporary redness or swelling may occur. Treated spots can remain darker for around a week on the face, sometimes longer on the body.
Time: 30 - 60 minutes
Suggested treatments: 4 - 6 treatments, 4 - 6 weeks apart.

Vascular
IPL vascular treatment uses filtered light energy to target haemoglobin within suitable superficial blood vessels. The absorbed energy creates heat, helping reduce the appearance of small visible facial vessels and selected areas of redness.
Treatment can be focused on individual areas or planned across the face, depending on your concerns. The aim is a more even-looking complexion, although persistent redness may require ongoing management and maintenance.
Suitable for: Selected superficial facial vessels and redness.
Discomfort level: Mild to moderate warmth and a brief snapping sensation.
Downtime: Temporary redness and swelling may occur. Some clients may experience bruising or a longer recovery.
Time: 30 - 60 minutes
Suggested treatments: 2-4 treatments are recommended at 1-2-week intervals, with maintenance treatments recommended every 3-6 months.

Photo-rejuvenation
IPL photorejuvenation takes a broader approach to suitable signs of sun damage, using filtered light to address selected areas of uneven pigmentation and visible redness. Treatment can cover the face, neck and décolletage, depending on your skin and goals.
Rather than focusing on a single spot, photorejuvenation aims to improve the overall appearance of skin tone. A course is often recommended, with results developing gradually and sun protection helping maintain your outcome.
Suitable for: Sun-related pigmentation, redness and an uneven-looking complexion.
Discomfort level: Mild to moderate warmth and a snapping sensation.
Downtime: Minimal
Time: 30 - 60 minutes.
Suggested treatments: Often a course of 4–6 sessions, approximately 3–6 weeks apart, adjusted to your device protocol and skin response.
A little more information
Your questions,
answered.
-
Temporary redness, warmth or swelling can occur. Treated pigment may darken before gradually shedding. Recovery varies with the area and settings; allow time before an important event.
-
A course is often needed. We’ll recommend the number and spacing after assessing your concern and reviewing how your skin responds. Results vary and maintenance may be discussed.
-
No. Sun-related spots, melasma and other pigment changes require different approaches. We assess the cause first and may recommend medical review or an alternative treatment.
-
Risks include burns, blistering, pigment changes, scarring and eye injury. We’ll discuss your individual risks and alternatives during consultation.
-
IPL isn’t suitable for every skin type. Darker skin tones and recently tanned skin have a higher risk of burns and pigmentation changes. We’ll assess your skin tone, concerns, medical history and recent sun exposure before recommending treatment. A patch test may be needed, and we may suggest an alternative if IPL isn’t appropriate for your skin.
